2010 Leaf Collection Begins October 25th
The annual leaf collection program for the City of Hopkinsville will begin Monday, October 25th, with collection scheduled to last through Friday, January 7th, 2011. HSWA leaf trucks will make at least two complete passes through the city within the ten week period and will not affect weekly garbage, trash and limb collection. The suction trucks will begin on the north side of town in the Sanderson Drive area.
In order to assist the department with timely service, residents should place leaves at or near the curb without limbs, trash or rocks mixed with them. Leaves should not be placed on sidewalks, in streets or gutters, or in drainage ditches as this hinders pedestrian and vehicle traffic and slows surface water runoff.
For residents that desire to dispose of leaves before vacuum trucks arrive in their area, compostable bags will be collected at curbside within 48 hours of the department being notified of the residents address. Only compostable bags will be picked up in advance of vacuum trucks. Plastic bags containing leaves will be collected by vacuum truck crews upon their arrival.
Progression of leaf collection efforts will be posted daily on the City website or the department can be contacted at 887-6245 with any questions concerning solid waste.
