HSWA Annual Leaf Collection Begins Monday, November 3rd
Leaf collection for residents of Hopkinsville will begin on Monday, November 3, 2008 on Blooming Grove Road. The collection will continue through Friday, January 16, 2009 with crews making a minimum of two complete passes through the city. Residents may track the collection process by logging on to the City of Hopkinsville's website. Weekly garbage, trash and limb collection will not be affected by leaf collection.
A few guidelines to follow for leaf collection are:
Leaves should be placed as close to the curb as possible with no limbs, trash or rocks mixed in with them. Leaf piles containing any other debris will be bypassed. Leaf piles should not obstruct sidewalks nor be placed in the street, gutter or in drainage ditches.
For residents that desire to dispose of their leaves prior to a leaf collection crew coming through their areas, may bag their leaves in compostable bags. These bags may be purchased at Krogers and Wal Mart. Collecting bagged leaves is a courtesy service, therefore only leaves in compostable bags will be picked up. HSWA crews will pick up leaves in compostable bags within 48 hours of being notified by the resident. Leaves bagged using plastic bags will not be picked up.
Residents may bring their leaves to the HSWA Green Waste Center at the Landfill free of charge. The Green Waste Center is open Monday through Friday 7:00-3:00 and Saturday from 7:00-12:00 Questions concerning leaf collection or solid waste will be addressed by contacting HSWA at (270)887-6245 or 887-6244.
