Hopkinsville in Contention for Enterprise Cities Award

Hopkinsville is in contention for a Kentucky League of Cities award that recognizes innovative practices in government.

The Enterprise Cities Award will be presented on Oct. 10 at the league’s convention in Covington.

Hopkinsville is being considered for the award based on its work with Inner City Residential Enterprise Zone.

Now in its second year, the Inner City REZ was created to help revitalize the downtown business district and four neighborhoods that surround downtown. REZ is overseen by a 12-member advisory council.

Eighteen Kentucky cities are being considered for the Enterprise awards in four population categories. Hopkinsville is competing against Paducah and Winchester.

"The Enterprise Cities Award recognizes projects that are helping Kentucky communities embrace the future and maintain their own unique local attributes in ways that work for people locally,” said Sylvia Lovely, executive director and CEO of the league. “Enterprise and innovation can take many different shapes.”

League officials said an independent panel of judges will determine the awards.

Holly Boggess, community development manager for the Planning Commission, submitted the application for Hopkinsville.

The Enterprises Cities Award was established in 1999. Hopkinsville has never won the award.
