Community Storm Recovery Celebration & Reception Announced

Community Storm Recovery Celebration & Reception

Hopkinsville, KY (February 19, 2009) – Local officials invite the community to a storm recovery celebration and reception to thank volunteers and workers for their persistence and dedication toward unprecedented recovery from this year’s record breaking ice storm.  The event will be held on Thursday, February 26th from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Auditorium Building on Hopkinsville Community College campus.  Brief presentations will begin at 4:00 p.m.  The public and all recovery volunteers, workers, their families, friends, and neighbors are encouraged to attend.   Refreshments will be provided courtesy of the James E. Bruce Convention Center.

“The response by our neighbors, friends, families and even strangers to the recent ice storm and its subsequent challenges has been so positive and encouraging, and we need to express our gratitude to all those who worked tirelessly to restore our community to order”, stated Dr. Jim Selbe, President of Hopkinsville Community College, one of the hosts for the celebration. Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp added, “This is an important opportunity to celebrate the great unity, strength, and support demonstrated throughout our community during this difficult time.  Join us in extending a warm thank you to all involved.”

Individuals are also asked to email photographs of their storm experiences, testimonials, or stories of Good Samaritans in action by Monday, February 23rd to nradford@hopkinsvilleky.us.  These materials may be included in celebration event materials such as a video montage provided by Kentucky New Era

Additionally, community members are invited to stop by any of these locations at the times indicated to write a message of thanks to those who assisted with recovery efforts.  The banner will be displayed during the event and then rotated among recognized groups.
