Let’s Go to the Movies is an evening of musical movie memories, featuring vocalist Cathy Scott and a trio of jazz musicians who perform unforgettable Oscar-winning tunes from great movies of the 1930’s – 1960’s, music brought to the silver screen by such legends as Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire, the Andrews Sisters, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Bobby Darin, and Henry Mancini.
The evening will be divided into two parts—Act I showcases 30’s - 40’s period tunes by the likes of George Gershwin, Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter, and Rodgers & Hammerstein, and ends with a selection of Frank Sinatra movie tunes. Act II features the greats of the 50’s and 60’s, such as Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend, That’s Amore, Moon River, and Charade.
Let’s Go to the Movies is one of two musical productions designed by Ms. Scott as part of her Musical Memories programming, which she has taken on tour throughout the Midwest and Florida. She began her career as a back-up singer and dancer for Tennessee Ernie Ford. For many years she toured internationally, including with the USO for troops during the Gulf War. In 1997, she was a featured vocalist for the International Vocal Jazz Fest at Carnegie Hall, and she has performed with the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center.
Cathy Scott performs at the Alhambra with musicians Steve Hobert on piano; Jeremy Boettcher on bass; and Bill Paul on drums. Let’s Go to the Movies is the fourth in the Live at the Alhambra Series sponsored by the Pennyroyal Arts Council.
