The newly named Christian County Library & Literacy Council invites all area book club members and all interested citizens to participate in the community-wide reading of Three Cups of Tea. This book is available in adult and young reader’s editions as well as an edition for primary-aged children, Listen to the Wind. The community-wide read of these books culminates during National Library Week, April 11-17, with several events planned to take place at the Hopkinsville Christian County Public Library.
Features include book discussion groups, special children's programs, and recently deployed military guest speakers from Ft Campbell as well as an exhibit of artifacts from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The Council believes that the many citizens in our area who have loved ones serving in the region should have this opportunity to learn of the cultural and historical contexts involved in the Afghanistan/Pakistan region. It should be noted that the author of Three Cups of Tea, Greg Mortenson, serves in an advisory capacity with the United States military.
All events at the library are free of charge. The library also has multiple copies of Three Cups of Tea available for check-out. Those wishing to purchase copies may do so at Books on Main in Hopkinsville.
