The City of Hopkinsville is Cashing in on the World Wide Web.
HOPKINSVILLE, KY - It could be the perfect place to shop, for that hard-to-buy for person on your Christmas list this year. It's a website called Govdeals.com.
The city of Hopkinsville is cashing in on the World Wide Web. At Govdeals.com people can bid on a fire truck, a snow plow, or an ambulance. City governments like Hopkinsville say it's cheaper, but more lucrative than a local auction.
"It's a faster turn on our money. We can sell either one item, or we can sell 20 items," said Tommy Casey with the city of Hopkinsville.
In Hopkinsville, the city council has to approve what gets posted on line. They have a warehouse full of odds and ins all sold as is.
"We just sold a 1966 Cutless for a real good price, and someone's going to restore it," said Casey.
It's money going back into the city. So far, they've made more than $200,000 on line.
