Hopkinsville Named One Top Spot To Retire

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - A national magazine, ‘Where to Retire' has named Hopkinsville as one of the top five havens where retirees can save on living costs.

Russ Waterman could have retired anywhere in the country, but moved to Hopkinsville four years ago from Colorado Springs.

"Clearly this is the least expensive place I've ever living in my life from Virginia Beach to Colorado Springs - San Diego and other places. The cost is you can't beat it anywhere," said Waterman.

Housing costs are 29 percent below the national average and general living costs are 14 percent lower.

"You have the lakes are not to far, within an hour you have Nashville to the south - you have Evansville, not too far from Cincinnati or St. Louis - if you like baseball and sports," said Waterman.

The Hopkinsville chamber of commerce launched a retiree recruitment strategy and said the ranking will jumpstart the program.
