Seventh Annual Citizen's Police Academy to Begin in March
For additional information or questions regarding the program, contact Sergeant Tracey Mayberry at 890-1540
The Hopkinsville Police Department will be conducting its seventh annual citizen’s police academy beginning Thursday, March 6th. The ten week long course highlights the activities of the department and gives the public a chance to see what the department does on a daily basis. The classes are taught by members of the department, which gives the class members a chance to meet officers in a positive environment. The classes are held one night a week and topics covered include patrol, investigations, k-9 demonstrations, and firearms, just to name a few. Each class participant may also attend a Saturday live fire exercise at the department’s firearms range. The class culminates with a graduation ceremony and meal, with certificates awarded to all that complete the course.
If anyone is interested in being a member of this seventh class, applications can be picked up at the Hopkinsville Police Department on West 1st street, the city municipal building, or the police substation located on Walnut Street next to the Walnut Street center. Applications will be accepted until Friday, February 22. A brief background check will be conducted on each applicant and each class member will be notified of his/her selection.
