The Hopkinsville Police Department would like to remind the community about not giving out personal information on the phone, through the mail, or over the internet unless you have initiated the contact or know with whom you are dealing.  IDENTITY THIEVES may pose as bank representatives, internet service providers, and even government agencies in order to get you to reveal your social security number, credit card numbers, or financial account numbers.  Banks do not call you to ask for this type of information and it is illegal for telemarketers to ask for this information to verify a prize or gift.  Check out anything suspicious with your local law enforcement, Better Business Bureau or you can also call the National Consumers League Fraud Information Center at 1-800-876-7060.
