New Floor, New Lights, New Programs Now at Thomas Street Recreation Center
The winter months have been busy and productive at the City of Hopkinsville’s Thomas Street Recreation Center. While staff has been working on several new programs and events for 2011, new, energy-efficient lights and a new, impact attenuating gym floor have been installed.
These new lights produce twice as much light as the old, replaced fixtures, while using much less electricity. The new Dynamic Sports floor is multi-purpose, durable, and low-maintenance. Marked for full-court basketball and volleyball, this flooring is user-friendly and will produce a consistent bounce of the ball.
In addition to our traditional winter basketball and volleyball leagues at Thomas Street Recreation Center, beginning April 6th, Zumba Fitness classes will be offered to the public on Wednesday and Friday evenings, from 5:30pm till 6:30pm. Amy Fortin, Certified Zumba Instructor, will be leading these classes. The cost is only $5.00 per person, per class and any participant’s initial, introductory class is free.
Then, beginning April 7th, Country Line Dance lessons will be offered on Thursday evenings, from 6:00pm till 8:00pm. Lessons are free. Everyone is invited. Donations will be accepted. Please wear non-marking soled shoes. For additional information, contact Elaine Batts at 270.886.0808 or mebatts@att.net.
Also, beginning Monday, April 4th, from noon till 2:00pm, weekdays,
the Thomas Street Recreation Center gym will be available for open play
- adult men’s basketball.
