Mayor Kemp Announces City Council Recognition & Retirement Reception for Public Works Director/Engineer Bob Cope
After serving as the city’s Public Works Director/Engineer since February 1, 2007, Bob Cope will retire effective January 31 of this year. In this position, he’s overseen the city’s Street, Grounds Maintenance, Parks and Recreation, Service Center, and Public Works Administration divisions.
On Cope’s leadership, Mayor Kemp remarked, “Bob has a passion for this community and for service. The city has been truly fortunate to have a business professional of his talent and energy to lead our Public Works Department the past four years.” Cope, in turn, wished the mayor “luck as he continues to lead the City of Hopkinsville to new prosperity and improved quality of life.”
Mayor Kemp applauded the department’s many accomplishments during Cope’s tenure including the:

Successful completion and opening of Tie Breaker Family Aquatic Center during his first year as department head;

Effective integration of the former Hopkinsville-Christian County Recreation Department and resulting restructuring of Public Works Department divisions;

Construction of the DeBow Recreational Complex pavilion and soccer fields;

Launch of the city’s sidewalk construction program;
-
Efficient management of Surface and Stormwater Utility flood-control remediation projects; and
-
Maintenance and enhancement of high standards and professionalism throughout the department.
The public is also invited to attend a retirement reception in Bob
Cope’s honor on Monday, January 31 from 3pm until 6pm
at the Public Works Complex located at 705 North Main Street in
Hopkinsville.
