Thomas Wolf: Hopkinsville's New Public Works Director
THOMAS S. WOLF BIOGRAPHY
My name is Thomas S. Wolf. I was born and raised in the City of Racine in southeastern Wisconsin and am the eldest of seven siblings. My parents moved our family to the Lake Country area in Waukesha County, Wisconsin when I was in my early teens. I completed high school in Hartland, Wisconsin and attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where I obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in December 1975. I met my wife Cynthia in high school and we began dating in our senior year. We were married in May 1974 and have been married for almost 37 years. She is a registered nurse with nearly 37 years of experience in Obstetrics/Gynecology, Labor & Delivery and Women’s Health. We have three adult children and a daughter-in-law. Our son Patrick, 33, is a general surgeon and is currently completing a fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, New York where he resides with his wife Naomi. Our daughter Meghan, 26, has bachelor degrees in International Studies and Philosophy from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida and spent a year in Africa serving in the Peace Corps. Our daughter Carlee, 23, is pursuing a second bachelor’s degree in accounting at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater after receiving her first bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.
I have more than 35 years of experience in Civil Engineering, 30 years in the private sector and 5 years in the public sector. Over my career I have obtained a strong municipal public works background and developed strong organizational, customer service, management and communications skills. Most recently I served as the Director of Engineering for the City of Crossville, Tennessee. Some of my primary responsibilities included the daily management and administration of a staff of four; the preparation, implementation and monitoring of multi-year capital projects and budgets and departmental operating budgets; providing guidance to City Management on the use of outside contractors and engineering consultants for public works matters; serving as a consultant to the City Council and Regional Planning Commission; attending City Council meetings; and interacting with citizens, neighborhood groups, civic organizations, private and government agencies and boards. For more than 20 years while in the private sector, I served as a contracted engineer/planner for a number of villages, towns, a sanitary districts and a technical college all in the state of Wisconsin, focusing on public works capital improvement projects; acting in an advisory role to Boards, Commissions and Committees; and interacting with staff and the general public. In my spare time, I enjoy tinkering around the house and in the yard and I am a huge sports enthusiast and an even bigger Green Bay Packer fan. I enjoy golfing but am not very good at it. I just like to get out and get some exercise and have some fun with my friends.
I was honored when I was offered the position of Public Works
Director for the City of Hopkinsville, Kentucky. I feel that this
position is a forward progression in my professional career and gives
me an opportunity to utilize my extensive public works experience in
serving the citizens, staff and elected officials of the City of
Hopkinsville. Why Hopkinsville? I have had the opportunity
to visit Hopkinsville over the last month and I have found the people
to be friendly, the area to be progressive and the weather far more
tolerant than Wisconsin’s. This opportunity for employment in
Hopkinsville is in line with how I want to continue in my professional
career.
